A mix of club-owned and private boats, our fleet is rapidly expanding with over 40 boats by the beginning of 2008. From the simple dinghy to the advanced catamaran, there is a boat for everyone, from the novice to the experienced competitor. Some boats have been imported while others are built in China. If you consider buying a boat, we would be happy to advise you on the best options.

Optimist
It may be the smallest boat on our lake but the SBYC’s Optimist fleet is the club’s largest and it’s still growing. Our Youth Sailing program started in the spring of 2007 and now has more than a dozen boats and an even larger number of enthusiastic kids. At SBYC the kids learn to sail for fun and to race fair. Come and try a free ride on one of our Open Days. |

The bigger boat in our fleet, the Xiamen-built Red Dragon D5.8 has a large, safe cockpit that makes it perfect for teaching new sailors, or as a family day boat. With its optional spinnaker and large mainsail, it also affords some spirited racing around the cans. There are now ten D5.8 in our fleet, owned by our members, with more on order. |

Weta Trimaran
Developed in New Zealand, the 4.4m Weta trimaran is a brilliant new design that looks great, is fun to sail, simple to rig and fits into your garage. A two-level cockpit and the absence of a boom means there is plenty of room for two adults, while the inherent stability of a trimaran makes for safe sailing with children. Since launching at Dianshan Lake in late 2006, our Weta fleet has expanded rapidly to ten boats. |

The Wanderer
A double-hander, the Wanderer is a versatile dinghy designed by Ian Proctor to be both fun and safe. The Wanderer's size and stability have made these boats popular with sailing schools around the world, and especially in the UK. The core of our club's fleet, our Wanderer dinghies were bought from the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club with funds raised by the SBYC's founding members. |
